A $300MILLION property development project in Nausori will be a landmark in years to come, says interim Commerce Minister, Taito Waradi.
Speaking at the project ground breaking ceremony in Nausor-i yesterday, Mr Waradi said development projects that focused on communities and the skills of people brought enhanced development and sustained prosperity.
Named The Haven, the project is at the end of Ross Street in Nausori Town and managed by international residential developer Executive Development Properties.
The project, expected to create 1000 jobs, will have international class residential homes, terrace houses and apartments, a premium hotel, 12-storey office complexes for professional and corporate organisations and a contemporary four-storey retail shopping complex.
"The Haven Project will be another solid example when completed, of what Fiji can showcase and offer to investors from other parts of the world," Mr Waradi said.
He said such development projects drove advances in education, reduced the migration of our elite, provided employment opportunities and helped put quality meals and rising incomes in homes.
Nausori mayor Vikash Singh said the project would be one of the biggest developments in the quiet town.
"It's like another Denarau," Mr Singh said.
He said the proposed upgrade of the Nausori International Airport and the Haven's nearness to it would greatly help the market appeal of the town.
EDP director Dr Bradley Carver said the developers chose Nausori because most projects were in areas that already had developments underway.
Dr Carver said 51 per cent of the profits from the development would be held in a local trust for mission and charitable work through Baptist churches.
